10 years later, SH flavored

[It's 10 years later- Everyone is ten years older, and hopefully ten years wiser, too. Or at least five years wiser! Even one year's worth of wisdom is good, really. Things have changed, okay.

Things have changed a lot, and it only becomes more obvious with everyone back at Hogwarts for a visit. It's a time to reminisce, to remember, and to reconnect.

Or, you know, to go about life as usual. ]

No it's a ghost. [He keeps the deadpan for a moment longer before he actually cracks a smile.] I'm raiding your library. And I have a few days, so I figured I'd stick around and see what's been going on around here. Drop in and say hi.

Oh, just fantastic! Minus all the extra work I've had lately, I suppose. But even that's been fascinating.

I hope you get some time with Dave. I'm sure he's missed you.

[She bounces on her toes for a moment before launching forward to hug him.]

Aaah, I've missed you too, though! It's been too long!

He tried to knock me over when he saw me. I think that means he did.

[Speaking of which, Jane's doing the same thing! But she did not get as much momentum as Dave managed, and he had more warning, so he's much more prepared to catch her and hug back.

They've come a long way since the snake egg debacle in fifth year.]

Missed you too. Sorry I can't stop by more often, but the school is kind of in the middle of fucking nowhere.

Hoo hoo, that's understandable. We really ought to write more, though. I don't even know what you're up to, lately! Have you got a special man in your life?

[Dirk lets the hug go a bit longer before he finally lets go and takes a small step back. Not outside of the radius of friendly contact, but not side by side, either. Hey, he needs his personal space.]

What, Dave and Bro haven't shared my letters? [He just shrugs kind of awkwardly at the question.] Nah, no one like that.

Sometimes. But it'd be nice to hear from you directly, you know. And I have dropped the ball myself, lately, but I swear I have been busy.

[Dave keeps her busy when work doesn't, actually. But she isn't about to start a fight between the two. She's seen how those go down.

She frowns at that news.]

Have you been dating, at least? Or, um, one-night-standing? I know how you Striders can be...

[She blushes a little, there.]

I've been lax about it myself. It's all right, Jane I know how it gets.

[He doesn't have to worry about her avoiding him. And he doesn't much mind Dave distracting her, if the two of them are making each other happy.]

On occasion. Mostly I'm busy working. Not much time for hookups in between all that.

W-well, maybe you could make time? I mean, if you want...

[She doesn't want to say it out loud, but she's pretty sure she knows Dirk isn't happy being alone.]

Actually, I could probably help you find a cute fella. Probably.

If I wanted to, I would. It's not that big a deal, right now.

[Or, well, it is, but he's gotten used to putting his work before his social life.]

What, you have someone in mind?

Hmmmm. I might. I suppose it depends on how he's standing on the homosexuality thing lately. But he does owe me one.

[She taps a finger against her lip thoughtfully.]

You like them tall, dark, and handsome, right?

So you'd use up your favor getting him to go on a date? I don't know, Jane...

[He shrugs. They probably all remember his enormous crush on Jake.] Well. Yeah.

Oh, don't worry. John'll owe me again soon enough.

[Dirk actually looks surprised at that one.]

I... why him? Because he owes you that favor?

[stubbornskeptic]

Well, no! I just thought...I mean, he's your type, isn't he?

[She didn't totally misjudge that, right?]

Well, yeah...

[Really really his type, even if he's never been interested in John specifically, thanks to the huge crush he had on Jake for most of his time in school.]

Just didn't expect it, I guess.

I think you'd be good together. He needs some seriousness in his life, and, well.

[Dirk could use some goofiness.]

I just think you'd enjoy each other's company.
