Camp Half Blood

Welcome, Demigods!

"If you're reading this because you think you might be one, my advice is: close this book right now. Being a half-blood is dangerous."

[Basically, if you've ever wanted to throw your character into the world of Heroes of Olympus, now you can! Make them a Greek demigod! Make them Roman! Make them a Satyr if you want. Just make it so that they've always been here (If they have, all the better for them.) Post with a few options, or let people respond with their own! Have fun.]

[Since she first arrived at Camp Half-Blood, Rose had spent most of her free time down at the lake. Some days she would be curled up under a tree reading a book. Usually something of a Lovecraftian nature.

Other days she'd go swimming on reports from naiads of longfin squid that had made it into the fresh water lake. Using goggles and a bit of magic (her mom was Hecate, you see,) she was able to swim out quite deep in order to see them up close.
]

[Your choice whether your character catches her reading, or coming back out of the water.]

[There's no reason to look up from her book, she knows that voice quite well.]

You always assume it's hentai. I can only surmise that you have a secret yearning to be the submissive party in the all-encompassing grip of a 20 foot long octopus. Or would you prefer a giant squid?

[She looks up with one eyebrow raised, curious to witness his full reaction, though she doubts she'll get any real rise out of him. He's an especially difficult nut to crack.]

Thank you for that piece of vivid and enlightening imagery, Strider. You have lifted the veil of ennui from my afternoon. That was almost hot enough that I might even have to break out a fan.

[The entire statement is dripping with sarcasm.]

[She doesn't react to the feint. Though had it not been a feint, he'd have been on the receiving end of a nasty hex before he could even make it five steps.]

I hope you have some sal volatile on hand because I'm so far past swooning that I am getting a terrible case of the vapors.

[She sighs like she's really put out, though she's not in the slightest.]

It will be a real struggle, but I'm certain I'll manage to reclaim my faculties.

[Not enough of an offense to warrant instant hexing, but enough to give way to a warning.]

Do that again and I won't hesitate hex you.

There's a rather profound difference between hair touching and messing it up.

[She only then bothers to finger comb her hair back into place.]

[John had seen Rose swimming around in the lake, so he waited up on the shore for her to finish her explorations there to talk with her. He preferred flying to swimming, and he didn't want to mess around with any of the beasties in the water, so he was well up on the shore while he waited.]
cephalopodcounselor: (59)

[personal profile] cephalopodcounselor 2013-06-30 12:46 am (UTC)(link)
[Upon reaching the shore, Rose picks up her towel and begins to dry off. She of course notices John right away, but she waits until she's gotten ost of the water out of her hair before she speaks.]

Enjoying the view, John? [She asks this dryly. Clearly she means the view of the lake.]
windyheir: (laugh)

[personal profile] windyheir 2013-06-30 01:09 am (UTC)(link)
Oh yeah, it's the best view in all of camp!

[He means the lake too, but he's not specifying that.]

So what were you doing down there anyway?
cephalopodcounselor: (02)

[personal profile] cephalopodcounselor 2013-06-30 01:11 am (UTC)(link)
Of course it is.

[She gives a slight smile.]

I was spending time with a squad of squid.
windyheir: (thinking)

[personal profile] windyheir 2013-06-30 01:56 am (UTC)(link)
Squids, huh?

[Sounds like something right up Rose's alley.]

Did they have anything interesting to say?
cephalopodcounselor: (11)

[personal profile] cephalopodcounselor 2013-06-30 01:58 am (UTC)(link)
Yes.

[A smirk as she wraps her towel around her waist.]

Only that the horrorterrors would be coming for you in your sleep tonight.
windyheir: (oh god no)

[personal profile] windyheir 2013-06-30 02:10 am (UTC)(link)
Nooooo not the horrorterrors!

[He's pretending to freak out over here. He's a total ham.]

Now I'll have nightmares and I'll have to sneak into people's beds to get any sleep and then get punched because all the other kids hates that shit!

Will you take responsibility for this, Rose? Will you?
cephalopodcounselor: (67)

[personal profile] cephalopodcounselor 2013-06-30 02:20 am (UTC)(link)
[She can tell it's a farce. It's painfully obvious when he's hamming it up.]

No. It's hardly my fault if you suffer from petrifying phantasms while you slumber. If anything you should blame Cthulhu.
windyheir: (that sure is a thing)

[personal profile] windyheir 2013-06-30 06:49 pm (UTC)(link)
You know Cthulhu's not real, right?

[He feels the need to say this, since there are gods that are really real, but Cthulhu is not one of them.]
cephalopodcounselor: (01)

[personal profile] cephalopodcounselor 2013-06-30 06:57 pm (UTC)(link)
[Cthulhu could be real. Don't discriminate, John.]

I fail to see how one set of gods existing precludes all others from that same right. Greek mythology is only the tip of the iceberg in all of humanity's mythological history. Are you denying the possibility that the Norse myths, Egyptian myths, Chinese myths, Japanese myths and all other myths are real? The myths have to come from somewhere, and since it has been proven to us that the Greek gods and goddesses exist, why should we doubt the others do?
windyheir: (durr)

[personal profile] windyheir 2013-06-30 10:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, for one, I've actually seen a Greek God before.

[Hello Mr. D.]

If I ever actually meet a non-Greek god, then sure, I'll start believing.
cephalopodcounselor: (13)

[personal profile] cephalopodcounselor 2013-06-30 10:52 pm (UTC)(link)
In other words, you are telling me you only believe things which you yourself have seen in person with your own eyes. Having seen one Greek god was enough for you to believe in them and everything to do with their mythology.

These myths happen to share many similarities with the mythologies of other cultures, including overlap in names and/or descriptions of mythological beasts. These myths propagated within periods of time when travel between continents was rare and the language barriers were for the most part unbreached.

Therefore, the chances of all other mythologies being false seems quite unfathomable. But if you insist on maintaining your non-belief, I suppose I will have to redouble my efforts to educating you on the various mythologies from around the world until you are able to understand the connections between all of them.
